The crystal clear past of Gianni Alemanno worries Europe. In "Le Monde", a french indipendent newspaper, you can read an interesting article titled "goodbye to anti-fascism". It's an interesting analysis of the weaknesses of the italian left wing - and of how Berlusconi tries to spread the hate in every possible way, even during the 25th April Celebration.
Schifani as president of the upper house is telling every kid: "you see, you can succeed as well".
Why do in Italy nobody could DARE to say the things that Sean Penn says to Mr. Bush in this video? (on youtube: watch?v=gcdVp77_1E0)
march 21st 2008 - "Il prossimo premier, cioè io, dirà un secco no ai francesi. Ci sarà anche una grande banca" (next PM, that is to say, me, will say NO to french people. There will also be a big bank)... "Ormai sono impegnato io, quindi si fa" (now I took personal responsibility, we will do it)... "Penso ci sia la possibilità di concretizzare una cordata italiana in pochi giorni: sono assolutamente fiducioso su questo e credo anche che si possa fare con il sostegno di importanti istituti di credito." (I think there's the possibility of having an italian group to make an offer in a couple of days. I think also some important banks could participate.
march 28th 2008 - "Io penso che non avrà buon esito questa trattativa, anzi, occorre che la trattativa con Air France si chiuda, si chiuda negativamente come io immagino e spero" (I think that this (the AirFrance offer) will be rejected, I think that this needs to be rejected as I think and hope).
april 23rd 2008 "Air France ha detto no per il veto posto dai sindacati" (AirFrance said no because of the veto of italian workers syndicate)... "La prima motivazione del ritiro di Air France è stato il fermo no dei sindacati sulla riduzione del personale. Per noi forse sarebbe stato meglio lasciare a questo governo la 'patata bollente'" (First reason of AirFrance "no" was the veto of the workers syndicate. It would maybe be better for us to let to the previous government this hot potato).
Strange? No, because it was before and after elections. We all know Mr.B.
What's really worrying is how italian newspaper and infos have treated the case. Nobody is able to stand in front of Mr.B. and ask him why he's changing his ideas in such a fast pace? :-)
Oh, you're telling me it's normal for a 70 years old men? What, he really doesn't remember what he said one hour ago?
I just want to link here Settore, who made a very bright but sad analysis of Mr.B. gestures with Putin some days ago.
The post, in italian, is here:

That's our brand new vice-prime minister. If you don't know who Calderoli is, here's a couple of things he has done for Italy.
- Maiale-day: Calderoli organised in 2007 the "pig-day", against the (completely legal) construction of mosquees in Italy.
- in 2006 he asked the Pope to form a coalition against Islam, referring to Vienna and Lepanto battles.
- in 2006 again he provoked Muslims by wearing, during a public TV broadcast, a T-shirt representing one of the sadly famous Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons (on wikipedia), leading to Mr.B. asking him publicly to resign from his government charges.
- Publicly called "porcellum", Italy's current electoral law, was written by Calderoli who later defined this same law "una porcata", that is to say something of no value, in a very-politically-uncorrect way.
- Following Italy's defeat of France in the 2006 World Cup Final, Calderoli criticized France for having "sacrificed its identity for results by fielding Niggers, Muslims and Communists" (from wikipedia)
As George could say.. What else? This man will surely give Italy's reputation back in the world's politics affairs.
140408 rises from some questions I asked myself. How can Mr.Berlusconi be elected again (for the 3rd time) as PM, after the negative economical and social results of his previous political experiences. How can Italians still trust a man like him. These questions are not only mines. I found answers on The Economist, for instance: read
http://www.economist.com/opinion/displaystory.cfm?story_id=11050099
There, the liberal newspaper tries to provide three answers.
Disappointment with Romano Prodi's government: it could be, because even if economical results were far better in two years than the ones of Mr.B. in five, they weren't IMO enough known. The message was not arriving to people.
Grip of Mr.B. on Italy's media. Hell yeah. No one can say this's not true (apart from Mr.B. himself).
Third explanation: the catastrofical economic situation in which Italy's in. But again: as Travaglio said in an TV show some days ago, the problem is that Italy would need someone who could help the nation out of the hole; the message is passing is that Mr.B. can do that; the problem is that facts say the opposite.
So this brings to the actual point. Situation in Italy is critical from my point of view, and this is because FACTS DON'T EXIST ANYMORE. Politicians can say what they like, what's better for them, and no one would STAND and say: "excuse-me, but this is not true". Good example is the querelle around the deficit everytime the governement changes. And this is why you can see now SOME right-wing journalists and persons (Sartori, Travaglio, even Montezemolo), some liberal journals like "the Economist", especially from abroad, criticising the head of the "right-wing" italian coalition.
What's the remedy? What's the medecine? What's the therapy? Can we just let Italy be cured by a "Berlusconi vaccine", as Montanelli suggested? I don't know. I really hope Mr.B. this time acts like a good politician and not like the head of the biggest italian economical empire: but if I have to say the truth, I don't believe it'll be like this.
This blog is how I try to remind myself what will he do, how will he do it, and why will he do it for the next years. And looking from the distance it's usually better to take the big picture.
- all the bibliography behind the infos is available on request.
that's a good start, Mr.B....

(from corriere.it)
"In Italy, as well as in Spain, there's a good number of women skilful enough to be member of the Government."
Valenciano respondió así a las declaraciones de Berlusconi, quien consideró que el presidente español, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, "tendrá dificultad en gobernar" a tantas ministras.
